FAQs image
What services are provided?
  • I provide individual and family sessions. I work with adolescents (ages 14 and up), adults and families. I specialize in trauma work in my counseling practice.
Do you offer marriage/couples counseling?
  • No. I do not do marriage/couples counseling.
What is the cost of a session?
  • The session fee depends on the type of payment. If paying out of pocket, a sliding scale is available to determine the amount. Fees are to be paid in full at time of service. Fees are to be paid through ZELLE or Venmo. I do not accept credit cards. These fees are for a 50 minute session as well as 10 minutes for case note preparation.
  • If you are using insurance, then your copay is determined by your insurance company and plan.
What insurance is accepted?
  • I currently accept BCBS, TRICARE West, GEHA, AETNA, United, UMR, AHCCCS (Banner) and HMC Healthworks. If you have a copay, it is due at the time of service.
  • If you are located in a state other than Arizona, depending on your insurance's credentialling, I may not be able to take your insurance, and you would need to pay out of pocket.
What to expect?
  • While the ultimate purpose of counseling is to reduce your distress through a process of personal change, there are no guarantees that the treatment provided will be effective or useful. Moreover, the process of counseling usually involves working through tough personal issues that can result in some emotional or psychological pain for the client. Change will sometimes be easy and swift, but it can also be slow and frustrating at times. We will work together toward your counseling goals and will discuss any challenges that may result during this time.
What are the Counselor/Client responsibilities & rights?
  • My responsibility to you includes confidentiality, honesty, knowledge, experience, and ongoing training. I strive to create a supportive environment that allows you to explore areas in which you desire to change. I will make observations and suggestions, provide feedback, and may ask you to do activities outside of session to enhance the change process.
  • Your responsibility as a client includes honesty, openness, willingness, and commitment. You are in charge of your therapy and your life. I believe that the strength of the client-counselor relationship is a major factor in the change process. I hope to work together as a team to meet your needs more effectively.
What are the benefits of telehealth?
  • Telehealth offers convenient, secure access to mental health support from the comfort of your own home. It removes common barriers such as travel time, scheduling challenges, and transportation, making it easier to stay consistent with therapy. Many people find they feel more relaxed and open in a familiar environment, and research shows that telehealth therapy can be just as effective as in-person counseling for concerns like anxiety, depression, and trauma. Telehealth also increases access to care for individuals with busy schedules, mobility challenges, chronic health conditions, or those living in rural areas.
How will counseling/coaching help me?
  • Counseling allows you to explore your concerns in a private, safe environment with an objective and trained professional. We will talk about what’s going on in your life and look at healthy ways to cope with your struggles.
What is EMDR?
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories, so they no longer feel overwhelming. By using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or sounds), EMDR allows painful experiences to be stored in a healthier way, so they feel less intense and easier to live with.
What is Brainspotting?
  • Brainspotting is a therapy that helps people access and release deeply held stress or trauma in the body and brain. By focusing on where the eyes naturally settle while paying attention to thoughts, feelings, or body sensations, the brain is supported in healing itself.

Major Differences Between Counseling and Coaching
Counseling
  • Focuses on emotional healing, mental health, and psychological well-being
  • Incorporates evidence-based modalities including EMDR, CBT, and Brainspotting
  • May address trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and other mental health concerns
  • Explores past experiences and patterns that impact current functioning
  • Provided by a licensed mental health professional
  • Includes assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning when appropriate
  • Clients must reside in a state where I am licensed or registered to provide counseling services
  • Insurance may be accepted depending on coverage and eligibility
Coaching
  • Focuses on personal growth, goal achievement, and future-oriented change
  • Does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions
  • Emphasizes action steps, accountability, mindset shifts, and personal development
  • Helps clients improve confidence, habits, performance, and overall direction
  • Available to clients residing in any state
  • Coaching services are not covered by insurance

My children & I have all worked with Sarah. She first started seeing my oldest daughter after a suicide attempt, walked alongside us through a nasty divorce, and has helped me process years of trauma with EMDR. She has been both a safe place and a swift kick in the rear when I've needed it. If you're ready to do the work, Sarah is who you want in your corner.

I was suffering from postpartum depression and trying to navigate familial relationships with not much success. I felt alone, stuck and incredibly unhappy. Sarah gave me the tools I needed to take my emotions back into control, learn what was worth fighting for and what needed to be let go and how to healthily set boundaries for healthy relationships. She helped me to heal over traumatic experiences from my past and dig deep to what gave me my emotional scars in the first place. I truly recommend her to all!

Sarah has helped me transform into a better version of myself. I can trust that Sarah is going to give me the facts and be honest with me, but I can also trust she's going to be comforting and supportive in whatever decision I make. She has taught me so many tools to help me manage my Anxiety and Depression that I use weekly, and it has helped so much.
